"Mankind is divided into rich and poor, into property owners and exploited; and to abstract oneself from this fundamental division; and from the antagonism between poor and rich means abstracting oneself from fundamental facts"-Joseph Stalin

What a Waste!

It is frustrating for me! There are so many enemies of the state. They are everywhere and I am given the impossible task of finding them all. Why would anybody want to be an enemy of this wonderful country we have created? What a waste of one's life.

The worst part is that the wives the men convicted as enemies of the state have become involved. They too are traitors, for how could any woman not be an enemy of the state when her husband, role model, and lover is a traitor!

If any man is convicted as being a rebel, his wife is also convicted, and is taken away. It is the only way to get rid of all these traitors! When I and my secret police conduct these purges, the women are just as guilty and capable of treason as the men! They must be dealt with! They must be made examples of so that we do not have more following their evil ways!

Women in the Soviet Union

I have found a new workforce. Because of these five-year plans, our nation needs all its citizens to join the effort to industrialize the country. I have found a way for women to help in their patriotic duties: they can work.

Russian women are already accustomed to heavy and dirty tasks around the house and on the farm, so it is not that much different to have them labor elsewhere, in addition to their household duties. Women, especially Soviet women, are strong and can be sent to work on construction sites where they can build factories, dams, and other things essential for the industrialization of the Soviet Union. In addition, I have found that women are clever enough to operate lathes, drill presses, and other machinery. I have also sent women to work on digging ditches and canals.

They are hard workers, of course they have to be, however, there are some women who are becoming unhealthy because of this labor, and some have even given their lives, but it is a sacrifice that I am willing to make, and they should be proud of themselves. What better way to spend your life than serving and dying for your country. They are hard workers; of course they have to be. Every citizen must work hard for the motherland!

The Ukrainian Famine

My five-year plan is working splendidly. Collectivization is a great idea. Not only does it allow for everyone to be equal and serve their country, but I have found another use for it.

The Ukrainians were experiencing a cultural revival. That cannot be tolerated. I could not have such a strong minority contaminating the Soviet Union. I found a way to kill two birds with one stone. I had my collectivization and I could deal with this Ukrainian problem at the same time. During this time of collectivization in the Ukraine, I required them to send more food to the government than they were able to provide considering there was a food shortage from the transition to collective farms. This resulted in a terrible famine from 1932 to 1933.

Estimates usually say that somewhere between 6-10 million Ukrainians died during this famine. This absolutely crushed the Ukrainian nationalism. Of course, it was not to be known that I planned for this to happen.

Treatment of Minorities

Minorities cause problems. They show that everyone is different and differences tell people that not everyone is equal which goes against everything we are trying to create here in the Soviet Union. Not to mention, many of these groups like to promote and support their own culture instead of that of the Soviet Union.

I have started by making "the study of the Russian language obligatory in schools of all national republics and [autonomous] regions". School was also to be taught using the Cyrillic alphabet, so as to teach the culture of the Soviet Union instead of native culture and language. This was decreed on March 13, 1938.

I have found that the best way to deal with this problem is to deport these people to Siberia and Central Asia. I have deported many different ethnic minorities such as, Ukrainians, Balts, Chechens, Ingush, Balkars, Kalmyks, and Crimean Tatars. The Soviet Union is much better off with these people out of society. Russians are the best ethnicity. As I toasted on our Victory Day in May 1945, "I would like to raise a toast to the health of our Soviet people and, before all, the Russian people. I drink, before all, to the health of the Russian people, because in this war they earned general recognition as the leading force of the Soviet Union among all the nationalities of our country"

Anti-Semitism

I have always wanted to find a way to reduce the number of Jews in the Soviet Union. In 1926, I disbanded the Jewish Section of the Communist Party. That was a good way to get them out of government. I, just as Lenin had, told people that Jews had no large, compact, rural settlements and no agricultural population, so there was no reason to recognize them as their own national group. They were "not a living and active nation, but something mystical, intangible and supernatural. For, I repeat, what sort of nation, for instance, is a Jewish nation which consists of Georgian, Daghestanian, Russian, American and other Jews, the members of which do not understand each other (since they speak different languages), inhabit different parts of the globe, will never see each other, and will never act together, whether in time of peace or in time of war?"

In 1928, I was able to send them to the Far Eastern region of Birobirdzan, not a very desirable place to live, to colonize. While they were there, I was able to accuse Semyon Dimanstein, the secretary of the Communist Party in Birobirdzan, of Trotskyism. During the great purge, the same thing happened to many other prominent Jewish Communists.

During the 1930s, the first signs of national anti-Semitism could be seen. There was open discrimination in education and in important roles and positions, such as the Soviet Armed Forces, or any type of organization that had contact with foreign countries.

The doctor's plot was another attempt to rid the USSR of Jews. In 1953, a conspiracy was reported to get rid of leaders of the Soviet Union by having the Jewish doctors poison them. However, this case was fabricated, and did not amount to anything in the end.

United and Mighty, our Soviet Union

My chest swells with pride everytime I hear the anthem to our magnificent nation!

This mighty anthem replaced The Internationale, as the national anthem of the Soviet Union in 1944. I thought that our soldiers would be more patriotic and brave for the Soviet Union if our national anthem was written specifically for the Soviet Union instead of for a general political idea, especially if it was at least in Russian instead of French. I personally chose Sergey Mikhalkov to, with the help of G. El-Registan, write the lyrics to the music composed by Alexander Alexandrov. The lyrics really capture the essence of the U.S.S.R., and of course, because I am leading this beloved nation, I am mentioned in the lyrics, along with Vladimir Lenin, as leading the citizens to labor and heroism. This sounds like me exactly; I am such an inspiration to the people!

The unbreakable union of free republics
Great Russia has welded forever;
Created by will of the peoples, long live
The united, mighty Soviet Union!

CHORUS:
Be renowned, our free Fatherland,
Reliable stronghold of friendship of peoples!
Soviet flag, people's flag
Let it lead from victory to victory!

Through tempests shined on us the sun of freedom,
And the great Lenin lit us the way.
Stalin brought us up — on loyalty to the people,
He inspired us to labor and to heroism!

CHORUS:
Be renowned, our free Fatherland,
Happiness of the people is a reliable stronghold!
Soviet flag, people's flag
Let it lead from victory to victory!

We developed our army in battles,
We will sweep the vile aggressors from the way!
In battles we settle the fate of generations,
We will lead our Fatherland to glory!

CHORUS:
Be renowned, our free Fatherland,
Glory of the people is a reliable stronghold!
Soviet flag, people's flag
Let it lead from victory to victory!

What an amazing song!

The Catholic Church

The Catholic Church posed some threat to the state, however but there were few Catholics within the actual Russian state. Rather, most were within the Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and others. But when these became satellite countries, something had to be done. Thus in 1945 my organizations made their rounds, and we arrested, deported, and detained a good amount of the Catholic leadership. We detained hundreds; both clergy and lay leadership. We even detained all nine bishops.

The Protestant Church

Besides the Orthodox church, the Protestant church also posed a threat to the state, albeit a smaller one. That is, there were fewer adherents, but still it had to be kept in check. Luckily, this challenge was met with the same gusto as the problem with the Orthodox church. Pentecostals were served en masse with 20 to 25 year prison sentences, and many died in prison. The leader of the Seventh-day Adventist, Vladimir Shelkov underground church was kept in jail for 49 years. Baptists, Lutherans, Methodists, all of these, persecuted, imprisoned, and their property confiscated.

The Russian Orthodoxy

The foremost religion, and for that matter, the foremost enemy of the well-being of the state was the Russian Orthodox Church. During the first five years of the regime, we murdered 28 Russian Orthodox bishops, and 1200 Russian Orthodox priests. Killed. The schools of this illusion: seminaries were closed.

Progress was quick. By 1941, only 500 churches were still open. Out of 54,000 at the beginning of World War One. Like I said, progress was quick. The church was seen as greedy, corrupt, which it may well have been, in either case, it didn't matter.

However, we ran into a problem. World War Two came around, Hitler attacked, the morale plummeted. Faced with the decision, we looked to the short term. We allowed some churches to reopen. We gave an inch, and they took a mile. Before Khrushchev took power, some 22,000 churches opened in the country.

Religion

“Religion is the opiate of the masses” – Vladimir LeninClearly, if the communist state is to succeed, the hearts and minds of the people must be united in favor of that state. Religion acts as a block to this. All religions are an illusion anyway; a mental block that the republic would do well to remove.

Lenin started the process with the League of the Militant Godless and the anti-religious propaganda. The Militant Godless had three and a half million people in its ranks. Magnificent; three and a half million people united against religion as a whole. Writing propaganda, giving exhibitions at museums, all against religion and for the state. Atheism was the new religion, the state the new god.

Political Policy

The political policy was, first and foremost the installation of communism within the state. The state was languishing under the oppression of the capitalist system. Lenin began the process, and I clearly was the logical successor. So the process had to continue. The implementation of the communist state had to continue to be done. This was done through all of the methods mentioned here already. The church had to be stopped. The farm land had to be collectivized. The country had to be industrialized. All of these things were brought to pass. This is my life's legacy and what I set out to do. The people of Russia are stronger than ever because of what I did.

To the Moon

Poetry

Swim untiring, as before
Over storm hidden earth
Blow away the thick storm of gloom
With your silver radiance.

To the earth unfolded sleepily
You bend with a tender smile
Sing to Kazbek a lullaby
Whose blanket of ice rises to embrace you.

But know it well, one who was once
Banished and plunged to ashes,
Will rise to the height of Mtatsminda
With his inspiration having taken wings.

Sitting in the dark heart of the sky
Playing with its pale rays
Illuminated my land to the brim for me
With your even light.

I will open my heart to you
Stretch my hand in meeting
Once again, with a thumping heart
I look at the bright moon.

Oh Bard! Since you were moved to tears
By the peasants’ bitter fate
From then on, it has been your fate
To feel the intense burning pain.

When you triumphed, deeply moved
By the grandeur of your homeland
Songs called out to you, as if
Flowing from the divine heights.

When, inspired by the fatherland
You touched your most intimate strings
It was as if a young man in love,
Was dedicating to it his dreams.

From that moment onwards,
You are bound to the people with ties of love
And you built a monument for yourself
In the heart of every Georgian.

To the immortal song of my land’s singer
An award must be conferred,
Already the seed has taken root
Reap the harvest now!

Not for nothing people glorify you
You shall live unto eternity
And many like Eristavi
Let my country raise her sons.

-Joseph Stalin

Using Terror is Essential

Fear among the people is the best way to control them. Just a short overview-- it allows me to control what is being taught in school, the people that should be in the country or exiled, and gives me the power to control the economy, government, and church. At first I was worried that someone might stand against me. Then I realized, I am the Great Stalin and no one defies me without getting punished. And because of that statement, I was feared throughout the country-- by the people, the government, and others! But a great way to hide my use of terror is by having the people love me so much that they are too scared to disobey me. Ruling with fear makes me feel very powerful and it almost seems that the whole Soviet Union is in the palm of my hands.

The USSR - My Own Personal Cult

Instead of having the new generation of children and people fear me, I will make them love me. I have done various things to improve my status among the people. I have approved much propaganda to improve my image and to inform about the way that I shall protect the people from evils such as Hitler and the other Axis powers. Many movies, novels, and even poems were created because of my great presence. Also, I have instilled a new course in the schools to learn my history, my legacy, in order to see the true valiant person that I am. I've grown to be liked so much that there are even people who would arrest those that disrespect me!

Collectivization

To help stimulate the First Plan which is the increase of industrial production and food supplies, I decided that a good idea would be collectivization. The plan of collectivization combines all of the land that the peasant farmers have. At first I thought this was a great way to get the country working together, but the kulaks wanted to work on their own. As a ruler, I believe the essence of working together, no matter how little you get paid (kulaks), is more essential for the greater good of the country than for individuals to work on their own giving no assistance to their fellow men.

Yet, the kulaks begin to rebel and won't see my side of things. That's why I had to force this plan on them. Even though they would kill their crops and livestock just to stop this plan, I won't give in! Anyone who defies me and this great idea will be banished to Siberia or maybe even worse.

Economic Plans Before and During WWII

I decided to have multiple plans that would last approximately 5 years each. The first plan I implemented began in 1928 and lasted till 1932. I decided to majorly focus on industrial production to catch up with the other countries.

After the first plan took place, I decided to come up with the second plan which only lasted from 1933-1937. I made sure to reinforce industrial production by giving it a high priority. Soon we were only behind Germany in steel production. However, overall, the second plan was not a success. It lacked production levels of coal and oil. During this time period, the government tried to help the farmers by coming up with different solutions in attempt to revive the agrarian part of our economy. However, it didn't work very well because there weren't many farmers left. Hey it wasn't my fault! All of those murder cases were obviously not related to the government!

The third plan was a failure on my account also. It lasted for only 3 years starting in 1938-1941. It was supposed to stimulate the war production but overall the 12% increase in war time goods only increased to 13%.

I'm starting to think now that the people rebelling against me in the first place caused this whole incident and that it's their own entire fault. If only they had listened to me.

The NEP (New Economic Plan) March 21, 1921

Lenin decides to create the NEP when of course most of the government (along with myself) is against it. According to the NEP, people were allowed to have private businesses and collect their own wealth. Farmers will use this as a way to make more money. At the same time, the farmers' taxes will be different. Instead, they will pay the government with crops by quota. This, of course, is against the whole idea of Communism. Everyone is supposed to be even and it is not fair that certain people should get more when others are working just as hard. Well anyways, this measure will only last for so long, because I see Lenin dying soon. By then hopefully I can restore the order. Maybe I'll call my plan collectivism...

The Great Purges

This wonderful idea of purging any opposition to my ideas had allowed me to expel opportunists' and counter-revolutionary infiltrators. They are merely expelled from the party. But if they are too much of a threat, I will make sure they are either banished to one of my gulag work camps, or executed. Along with this idea I decided to pass a new law on terrorist organizations and terrorist acts. I made sure this law met my demands of expelling any opposition as quickly as possible. This law states, that any suspected terrorists were to be investigated for no more than ten days, with no prosecution, defense attorneys or appeals, followed by a sentence to be executed quickly. I feel that this form of "cleaning up the country" will work nicely in my favor. In order to find these terrorist, I classified Anti-Soviet activities in broad general terms so anyone can be convicted. Many of my closets military allies have been convicted of treason and I figure the Red Army will follow suit. The Armed forces aren't the only ones who I have targeted, i have also targeted many ethnicity's such as the Polish, Germans, Koreans, etc... I figure if I can get at least 350,000 of them arrested, many of them can be executed.

The Commissariat for Military and Naval Affairs in 1925

January: That damn Trotsky still controls the Commissariat for Military and Naval Affairs. I need to gain control of this if I plan to become the leader of the whole USSR.

Later January: Trotsky has been replaced due to his excessive absences! By Mikhail Frunze the Chief of the Red Army. He is less subservient but will probably be easily removed from his position.

October 1925: The paper says that Mikhail Frunze has died from "mysterious circumstances". But I know it had to do with a mishandled and essentially unnecessary stomach operation where an excessive amount chloroform was used. So naturally I made sure that one of my civil war buddies got the position his name is Klement Voroshilov and a great supporter of me. Now I can sleep in peace with the Soviet forces under my watchful eye. I can now concentrate all my power in the Politburo and the Secretariat; and as General Secretary, I can steer the working of the Party apparatus in any direction I please and pass any measure I want by manipulating the majority of the Politburo. Oh how I enjoy controlling everything from decision-making to administrative work to enforcement.

Trotsky 1924

What a chump! It is if he is asking to be isolated from the Party! He just recently published his book The Lesson of October in which he made the big mistake of attacking Zinoviev and Kamenev saying that they are reluctant supporters of Lenin's plan of armed insurrection. This book of his has solidified my support with Zinoviev and Kamenev again. This book allowed me to isolate Trotsky even more. I did so by speaking of his record before and after 1917. This led to Zinoveiv and Kamenev to join my anti-Trotsky drive that is aimed to discredit him for having conspired to corrupt the Leninist party.

The Death of Lenin

I attended the reading of Lenin's testament today. That man had some nerve requesting that I be removed from the post as General Secretary! That daft Trotsky missed another great opportunity to remove me from power again hahaha. Luckily I know I have support in the Party. Zinoviev was faithful and rescued me from being kicked out of my position. My next move is to recruit around 200,000 new members. They will be supporters of my ideas naturally. Unfortunately I feel that my support may be beginning to waver in the party.

Me as General Secretary (1922)

I was appointed this position recently and have been exercising my power excessively. I have been working very hard to undermine Trotsky in the Politburo and the Commissariat for Military and Naval Affairs. One big step has been the formation of my triumvirate with Zinoviev and Kamenev. This has really helped isolate Trotsky. Poor man he is I laugh at him for not accepting the post of Vice Chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars. He was offered that spot twice! Had he been smart to accept he could have been Lenin's natural successor as Chief Executive of the Soviet Union. It's his loss, besides I enjoy a challenge.

All quiet on the set...and... ACTION!

(New, approved film)

In reviewing recent plays in Moscow, I found 19 of them to be unacceptable. They do not promote the communist party or our great nation. Further more, I have found 35 similarly unsatisfactory films in the works. They must be stopped immediately!

On a more positive note, I have given Soviet filmmakers the task of creating movies about world figures such as Alexander Nevsky, Ivan the Terrible, Peter the Great, and Alexander Suvorov. I believe that it is important for the theme of these movies to be about the struggle against foreigners and the strengthening of autocracy as the best guarantee of Soviet Unity. Bringing communist doctrine to the forefront of popular culture will be the best way to inform citizens.

Today's agenda

My To-Do List:
- Come up with more slogans promoting my image and our nation's
- Read and approve new literature to see if it is acceptable and communist-promoting
- Check in with the writers who are replacing poetry with my own accomplishments

Note: "It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything". What I say goes, and that is final. There is no room in our society for creativity and individualism. They shall honor me, and me alone.

Kids these days...

(A rather impressive group of students)
This is an outrage! Kids in school these days have no sense of true education. Teachers are using experimental methods of grading, teaching, etc... and this will not stand with me! I am now requiring that teachers revert to traditional grading methods, that is, awarding medals to students with superior work ethic.
_________________________________________________________
I have had government authors re-write our textbooks, emphasizing my rise to power and the institution of Communism in the U.S.S.R. The youth of my great country must learn of the communist doctrine, and accept it full-heartedly.
__________________________________________________________
And finally, I find it necessary to force each and every child to wear uniforms at school. They should not have the liberties to dress as they please!

Handsome or what?

Today I approved the final prints of the new propaganda posters; Boy do I look handsome! The posters really show whose boss around here (me, of course). My favorite poster shows me holding a beautiful infant holding our nation's flag. I really think it shows off my sweet side...
